Community & Sound is happening tonight! Join us!

We are thrilled to let you know that two of our artists now have their recent album releases on iTunes!

The first is Heather Sommerlad's newest album Hummingbirds and Hearthstones, a "richly realized sonic world" with "prodigious classical guitar playing and harmonic structures, which are always adventurous and unexpected" (VAMP Blog). Click here to listen to the album on iTunes and to rate and review it!

The second is Michael Chinworth's debut LP Rudder Songs. Michael's "indifference to musical boundaries" has led to a "lustrously tuneful take" (Misfit City) on Trevor Wilson's song cycle, and his live shows have been described as "Beautiful music: soulful, affectingly poignant, lonely, truthful." (Allen Shawn - Music Composition Faculty, Bennington College). Click here to listen to, rate, and review Rudder Songs on iTunes.

If you like what you hear, please take the time to rate and review these albums! Your feedback is an incredibly helpful way to give new listeners insight into our artists and their music.

Thank you, we hope you enjoy listening, and have a great last couple weeks of summer!

Subtle Soup Community, we have an exciting surprise for you!

Today, we are proud to announce the release of a new EP by Pat Hull, called June!

Pat was invited to record at the state of the art studios at Cal State Chico and he took the opportunity to write new material and to reimagine a few previously released songs.

June is an effortlessly performed and deep musical statement in which Pat explores "unconditional love and all the doubts and beauty that go along with it."

Listen to and purchase June and discover the soundtrack to your summer!

Pat Hull's "Shed Skin" In Dahlia Cassandra Book Trailer

Congrats to author Nathaniel Kressen on the upcoming release of his newest novel, Dahlia Cassandra!

We were honored when Nathaniel requested the use of Pat Hull's "Shed Skin" for the book trailer. Pat's music (which also features the voice talents of Michael Chinworth and the production style of J.J. Beck) compliments the haunting imagery and language of the book trailer perfectly.

Check it out below and be sure to pre-order your copy of the book at

Or, go to the book release party on 6/17 at Strand Book Store to get a copy and meet the author:

HMS Live Video & Michael Chinworth Interview

We have had a couple of great weeks here at the label. HMS' album release show for Hummingbirds and Hearthstones was a big hit, and we want to thank everyone who came out! For those who couldn't make it, you can watch a live video of "Moonbeam", and if so inspired, you can purchase the album here. Kelly Hoppenjans of the VAMP Blog, also wrote an insightful review of the album, which we highly recommend you check out! She calls the work "a richly realized sonic world...with complex rhythmic layering and beautifully ominous choral voices."

This week also marks the tail end of Michael Chinworth's Spring Tour, where he crossed the whole country and played close to twenty shows.

While he was in Los Angeles, he stopped by the Independent's Day Radio studio to do an interview and live performance with host Joe Armstrong.

Click here to listen to the in-depth and excellent conversation between the two, where Michael discusses the creative process behind his LP Rudder Songs, his musical heritage, surviving in NYC, and the benefits of driving cross country playing music.

We hope you enjoy this new media and the chance to dive in further!

We recently had the pleasure of creating the theme song and scoring the ambient music for an awesome podcast called The Point of Attachment. This fascinating podcast explores how we interact everyday with brands, design, and storytelling, and how those things get under our skin and hook us.

Coincidentally, Daniel Munkus of Old Robes finished the music just in time for Valentine's Day - the subject of their first podcast which features our music. Check it out below and learn everything you ever wanted to know about love and candy (or Red Velvet Oreo cookies). Listen all the way through and hear their shout-out to us!

Our very own Pat Hull caught the ears of holaOLA with one of his amazing live performances.

holaOLA followed that up by writing this great post including this lovely and very true observation:

" One thing is certain as you listen to Pat Hull play: His impassioned, soothing signature is left on everything he touches."

Yeah, Pat.
